By visiting or staying at the centre guests
have the opportunity for a close encounter with Lake Naivasha's
varied mammal and bird life. A unique aspect of the centre is its
location to the lake. Lake Naivasha is renowned for its beautiful
scenery, the fresh Water Lake is also very important ecologically.
The Lake is home to the largest water fowl
population in Kenya and its also famous for its many African Fish
Eagles, two pairs have nests on the Elsamere lake frontage. Over
200 species of birds have been recorded at Elsamere. Rare species
such as the Verraux's Eagle Owl are regularly sighted.
The lake is also home to over 400 hippos. Pods of hippos regularly
wander up from the lake at night to graze on the property's lawn.
A troop of Colobus monkeys has been visiting Elsamere daily since
Joy lived here.
