The Field Study Centre was established in 1989. The centre's mission is to make environmental awareness and development education available to all the people of East Africa. In fulfilling this mission, the FSC has developed its conservation activities to include different levels of educational practice. The Centre is involved in four major programmes that include:

• Teacher training on environmental education in the school curriculum. More
• Community educator training on environmental development. More
• Local Schools Environmental Education Programme. More
• Weekend and day visits for field based ecological studies by schools, conservation groups and institutions. More
